A classic for any child (or child at heart)Tudor's delicate watercolors complement Stevenson's work almost to the point that you think the two, living in different centuries, must share some time-travel telepathy with each other. All the classic Stevenson pieces are here: "The Swing," "The Land of Counterpane," the terrific poem about a child's shadow. Tudor depicts only children and animals herein--as it should be--without the presence of shadow of adults anywhere. Both Stevenson and Tudor understand in their bones that no matter what grown-ups may think, children inhabit a world of their own. That world is mostly beautiful, but sometimes fraught with danger or questions. Those hints are present here, but the overwhelming impression any reader will have will be that of beauty--both in words and in pictures.

Still makes me Giggle

The Bema
Excellent BookUriel is a delight and I truly believe that we each have our own "Uriel" watching over us. It is almost scary to think that even in our failures of the flesh that our guardians still watch over us and never leaves us.
This is a MUST READ! I have been in the Christian book industry for years and I am not sure why I had not found this gem before. I will most definately keep this book on my book tables that I do for conferences.
What Will You See At The Bema? It's about this man who goes to Heaven in the Rapture, and while he's there he has to go before the Bema, the Judgment Seat of Christ and be judged for all that he did wile he was on the earth.
Let me tell you when you read this book you get convicted. It makes you watch what you do and say. For everyone you do and say will be judged by God! And that's a good enough reason for me to watch what I do and say!
This book can change your life. It's a good thrilling story, with a very, very, VERY, good morel to it! Get it, Read it, and let it make you think twice about your life and the way your living it!!!
READ IT!!!

Winning Angels: The 7 Fundamentals of Early Stage InvestingIt seems to me that this critical topic must be understood by the entrepreneur as he or she consider the funding requirements of a start up company.
Who are Angels? How to do you approach them? What type of investment return do they expect? What types of exit strategies appeal to them and in what time frame? All of these questions are clearly addressed by a cross section of experienced Angels.
This book exceeded my expectations and deserves my time to say thank you.

First of a Kind !!!

Anne Bronte's feminism manfesto rocks! This novel begins through the eyes of an English countryman, Mr. Markham, and continues switching to the viewpoint of Helen, a mysterious newcomer to Mr. Markham's small gossip-ridden community, and then back to Mr. Markham. The entire book is in first-person narrative- an excellent oppertunity for Bronte to flex her descriptive muscles. I found the characters to be well-developed and symbolic, especially Arthur Huntingdon. At first we are led to despise him, even wish for his death, yet as the story unfolds we pity him, even understand why Helen once loved him.
Bronte's message is clear- society torments women. This book is bold in it's suggestions, considering it was created in 19th century England. I suggest you buy it; it is a book to read more than once
A much forgotten about book with an unusual narrative device
The Forgotten Sister

Of minimal use to service / retail businessesFor me, as a burgeoning retailer, I found I skimmed more than half the book, because the content was of no immediate value or interest to me. Also, the service sector is barely touched on.
I realize that 3 stars may not be fair, given the limitations of my own area of interest, but 1) the book description should give some indication of its limitations, 2) the book cries out for less philosophy and more concrete examples of the points being made, 3)the writing itself is average at best...the book wants to be somewhat inspirational as well as practical, but Mr. Reiss' writing is not up to the level of inspirational.
I see from the other reviews here that lots of people love this book. That's why I ordered it. But I have to admit I was disappointed. But I also can see how for the right entrepreneur, it could be of some value.

Very good
wonderfully engrossing book
The death of love---no one does it better than Barbara Vine!

A lot of fun to read..This is the only poem book of Eliot's that I own and it's a great deal of fun to read. My favorite cat is Macavity. If you've seen the musical Cats (which I haven't), here's the inspiration. This is also a great first book to get younger people interested in poetry. The language Eliot uses is flowery and catchy, and the subject matter is centered on those cute furballs. Enjoy.
Feline fun with a master poetThis book is hilarious and very enjoyable. Eliot's words leap and dance across the pages with a zany musicality. Gorey's accompanying artwork is whimsical and full of interesting details. Eliot has created some great feline characters: the fearsome Growltiger, dapper Bustopher Jones, Magical Mr. Mistoffelees, and more.
Yes, these poems are great fun to read. But if you are inclined to look closer and analyze them at a deeper literary level, you will find that each one is a masterpiece of poetic craftsmanship. Eliot uses a wonderful variety of meters, rhyme schemes, and various poetic effects. Each poem stands on its own, and together they form an effective artistic unity.
Also noteworthy is the very "English" flavor of the book, which Eliot achieves by spicing his poems with many references to English geography and cultural history. Highly recommended, whether or not you like cats.
PRACTICAL CATS--NOW AND FOREVER!

The beginning of a wonderful friendship!Everything great or small has it's beginning, and in the beginning of THIS book, which begins, in turn, the whole series, we meet our hero, Henry. Henry lives with mom and dad, but he really doesn't have any friends. No other children live on his block, he doesn't have any brothers or sisters. So, he asks for a dog. That dog is Mudge who swiftly goes from a teeny, handful-sized puppy to the 180-pound pooch we know and love through the rest of the series.
What makes H&M books so wonderful are the bright, simple illustrations that mirror the text and the easy realism of Mudge the dog. Unlike other fictional dogs, Mudge doesn't talk, walk about on his hind legs or save the universe: he is just a big, happy, loving pooch who, like dogs everywhere, is totally dedicated to his pal, Henry. He's like a real dog... a real BIG dog, but a real dog nonetheless. He falls asleep when he's bored, he follows Henry everywhere and is unhappy when Henry's not around, and occasionally he eats things he's not supposed to. Practically any child would love to have a companion like Mudge.
H&M are one of those rare types of books that easily fall between two categories: picture books and chapter books. They're well illustrated and the text is simple and easy to read, but the story is also divided up into chapters (usually three). This makes these books perfect for young readers who may feel that they are starting to move beyond picture books but may not be ready for full-blown chapter books with little or no illustrations. The stories are simple and comfortable and the stuff of everyday life, so a child doesn't need to have a great deal of worldly experience climbing mountains or leaping tall buildings in a single bound to see that reading can be fun.
If you start here with Henry & Mudge, by all means, don't stop here! Go on to enjoy all the other adventures that these two share! You and your children will never be disappointed!
great for the reluctant reader
Great book, great series!
